Working Group on Biomethane

working_group

Cellulosic biomass waste can via gasification and methanation very efficiently be transformed into biomethane. Fuel yields per tonne of waste used will be higher than for competing biofuel alternatives. All other organic waste matter can via anaerobic digestion, with unparalled efficiency, be converted into biomethane.

Concerning biofuel production, based on crops produced on land approved for biofuel feedstock production, biomethane will provide superior fuel yields per hectare of land used. Part of the explanation is that all of the plant is used, not only the seeds.

The purpose of this working group is to review the European market conditions for biomethane used as a vehicle fuel and try to identify critical issues, as well as possibly required forward action by NGVA Europe in order to improve these conditions. The work should result in a paper to be presented in connection with our annual conference in June.

Group participants will be provided with updates on landfill gas, biogas, and biomethane news form all over the world on a running basis.
