Russia: Successful finish of NGV Caravan after 1800 km from Moscow to Sochi

GAZPROM

Sochi, Russia, 23rd April 2009; Gazprom, VNIIGAZ and NGVRUS succeeded to drive a NGV Caravan of 16 NGVs (20.-23. April) from Moscow via Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar and Novorossiysk to Sochi - the capital city of the 2014 Winter Olympics (total length 1800 km!).

ngv_caravan_1Several established OEM manufacturers like Volkswagen, Opel and IVECO took part in this ´Blue Corridor NGV Caravan´ through Russia with various vehicles powered by natural gas, biomethane and hydrogen. Among the 16 NGVs that participated in the Caravan there were models like the Volkswagen Caddy Eco Fuel, Passat TSI Eco Fuel (both CNG), Opel Zafira CNG or IVECO Daily CNG (see picture). All vehicles managed to do the total length of 1800 km driving route without any technical problems or breakdowns.

The strategic objective of this Caravan was to promote the unique environmental, economic and safety features clean fuel alternatives like natural gas and biomethane have to offer. Vehicle manufacturers could also use this significant Russian project to demonstrate the excellent performance of their NGVs.

Last September Gazprom together with VNIIGAZ and NGVRUS already organized a first CNG Caravan from Saint-Petersburg via Novgorod and Tver' to Moscow. Fourteen trucks, buses and passenger cars running on natural gas were attracting attention of local politicians, fleet managers, general public and the press.

NGVRUS is the link to the Russian NGV society and also origin of many initiatives that help to promote this clean fuel alternative, in order to further develop the national and international markets.
