Brussels, 23rd February 2010
On Tuesday, February 23rd, the Environment Committee (ENVI) of the European Parliament was voting on various suggested amendments in relation to a report to the European Commission on the Future of Transport, to which NGVA Europe was contributing as a stakeholder.
During the meeting the majority of the ENVI Committee members also voted in favour of Amendment ‘32’, which...
“Urges the Commission and the Member States to identify the drivers for and barriers to possible innovation resulting from R&D and to priorities investment in environmentally friendly infrastructure, for example smart grids for electric transport, natural gas/biomethane from renewable energies and hydrogen distribution networks. Urges the Commission not to neglect the influence of in-vehicle technologies on driver behaviour as a potential contribution to the reduction of fuel consumption/CO2 emissions.”
The adopted text above (highlighted in bold type) was also supported by NGVA Europe.
NGVA Europe's views on the Commission’s Communication, entitled “A sustainable future for transport: Towards an integrated, Technology-led and user friendly system”, were expressed in the Position Paper from 30th September 2009 (can be seen here).
On 17th December 2009, the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) already received another very positive contribution via a Draft Opinion by the Parliament Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI). It “considers bio-waste to be a valuable renewable resource for the production of gaseous transport fuel through conversion of biogas into biomethane”. This quotation refers to point 12 of the original AGRI communication document below with reference number 2009/2153(INI).
