our Political Work

Being the only European association that promotes NG/biomethane as a fuel used in the transportation sector, NGVA Europe’s main objective is to seek support for the use of NGVs by convincing European politicians of the benefits when driving a NG/biomethane powered vehicle (both in economic and environmental terms). The reason is simple: NG/biomethane can only become a major clean fuel alternative if it is supported by the European legislative and executive bodies.

In this context, a coherent EU policy would also have a lasting effect on national policies and could support incentive schemes and taxation policies favouring the use of NGVs (EU Institutions cannot legislate nor influence national tax matters). Linked with increased support for refuelling infrastructure developments, this would then convince potential customers to buy a NGV.

NGVA Europe is therefore closely observing and trying to influence the work of all important EU Political Institutions, in order to guarantee that NGVs in Europe become a stronger voice. Our political work is carried out by NGVA Europe EU Affairs Manager, Matthias Maedge, who is operating from our Brussels office in Avenue de Cortenbergh 172 and coordinated by the General Manager, Manuel Lage. The NGVA Europe staff is supported by the Country Representatives Committee (CRC).

We are encouraging the country representatives to contact Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from their respective countries in order to help seeking for political support of NGVA Europe positions. Part of the lobbying work must be undertaken also on a national level. The overall message is coordinated by NGVA Europe.

A detailed description of current issues affecting NGVs, currently and soon being dealt with, on the European Union political agenda is available to members of NGVA Europe only.
