Gas Natural is an energy multi-national, leader in the gas sector in Spain and Latin America, the world's fourth biggest gas transporter by volume, and one of the biggest operators of combined cycle generating plants in the world, with a major presence in Mexico, where it is the second biggest private electricity generating operator. The company's main activities are the supply, distribution and sale of natural gas in Spain, Latin America, Italy and France, where it has 11 million customers, and it is also a major operator in the electricity generation and sales business in Spain, and in the sale of other energy products and services. The fundamental objective of the Company's Strategic Plan for 2008-2012 is to grow from a leading gas company into a vertically integrated international natural gas and liquid natural gas (LNG) operator. Gas Natural's objectives for 2012 include establishing the company as a world leader in gas distribution, a leader in efficiency in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, the third biggest utility in the Iberian Peninsula, and the third largest operator in the world of combined cycle generating plants. Gas Natural is currently the leader in the Spanish gas market, operating through 11 distribution companies across 13 autonomous communities, and two sales companies. The company is the fifth biggest operator in the Spanish electricity sector, according to the National Energy Commission (CNE). The Group's strategy for the electricity generation business is based on having a balanced, competitive and environmentally-friendly production mix, in line with the aims of the Kyoto Protocol. |
