Leading energy group in Europe to produce green gas in Denmark

Dong Energy has ordered standardized and energy efficient biogas upgrading technology from NGVA Europe member and global developer Greenlane Biogas in Sweden. The upgraded high quality biomethane, replaces the fossil natural gas, and will be injected into the Danish natural gas grid.

Dong Energy, one of the leading energy groups in Northern Europe, will start to produce and upgrade biogas at the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Fredericia which comes from digested residue of the waste water treatment process. The upgraded biogas will be injected into the Danish natural gas grid during summer 2011. To upgrade the biogas to high quality biomethane, suitable to use as an alternative to fossil fuels, the energy giant chose Kanuka, a standardized energy efficient upgrading unit from Greenlane Biogas in neighboring Sweden. The company is a global developer and supplier of proprietary water scrubbing biogas upgrading technology.

“Biogas is an environmentally friendly substitute to fossil fuels that can power both homes and vehicles. We are experiencing a tremendous surge in interest in our technology across Europe reflecting an increased number of biogas initiatives in this region, backed by both governments and businesses. We are now ready to break ground in Denmark as well, with our first unit set to be delivered to Dong Energy, says Morgan Jansson Ternow, CEO at Greenlane Biogas in Sweden.

The Greenlane product range spans a wide field from the diverse needs of society from small municipalities and farms especially developed for sewage treatment plants. Kanuka, the unit that Dong Energy have ordered are designed for raw gas capacities of 300 Nm3/h*, which is roughly the equivalent of powering 1250 cars per year with petrol. The unit is a prepackaged standard product that enables rapid installation and is easy to manage and maintain. The upgrading process used in the Greenlane plants is energy efficient and environmentally friendly: The main process uses water as the cleaning fluid.
