Turin/Italy, 2nd October 2009; according to a Fiat press release, the Italian OEM (Original Equipment Manufaturer) and NGVA Europe Board member ranks among the best-selling automobile brands in Europe with having the lowest CO2 emissions. The release of the new bi-fuel (petrol and methane) variant of the Punto Evo and the Qubo increase Fiat's NGV portfolio and strengthen their position as being Europe's leading manufacturer for NG/biomethane powered passenger cars.
Fiat announces to be "one of the 25 best-selling automobile brands in Europe and after two years of holding the leadership position, Fiat Automobiles has proven to be the brand having the lowest average CO2 emissions on cars sold during the first half of 2009: 129.1 g/km (the figure was 133.7 g/km just six months ago). Fiat has also set a new record: it is the only full-liner brand that already today has achieved the European average goal of 130 g/km established for 2015" (go to complete text of the original press release).
One of the reasons for this fantastic development is of course the well-grounded fact that NGVA Europe member and Italian car manufacturer, Fiat Automobiles, is Europe's leading OEM for NGV passenger cars and recently released the brand-new bi-fuel (petrol and methane) variant of the Punto Evo and the Qubo.
The Punto Evo was unveiled in a world premiere at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show (see picture), official market introduction was the 29th September 2009. The Punto Evo produces only 115 g/km of CO2 and has "record low running costs of less than 4 Euros per 100 km", as Fiat says. "Among other advantages, methane-fuelled engines benefit from the highest government incentives in Italy: 5,000 Euros if combined with a contribution for scrapping your old car" (go to Fiat press release).

Fiat's commitment to supplying Natural Gas Vehicles (NGVs) continues with the presentation of the Qubo Natural Power (see picture). The Fiat Qubo Natural Power has a 70 HP 1.4 engine (Euro5) with CO2 emissions of only 119g/Km. List price for the Qubo Natural Power starts at 16,400 Euros.
"Fiat is convinced that methane currently represents the most appropriate technology for reducing pollution in our towns and cities. Methane fuelled vehicles are also particularly advantageous at present, since methane is not only the ‘cleanest' fuel available but also by far the cheapest" (go to Fiat press release).
NGVA Europe is happy to see that Italian industry players and Fiat are showing such dedication to push the national and European NGV markets and we are confident that such news will encourage other markets to follow this example.
