Gazprom joins NGVA Europe Board of Directors

The NGVA Europe Board of Directors accepted Gazprom's application to join NGVA Europe and to take a seat on the association's governing body with unanimous vote in the last BoD meeting on 4th March in Geneva, Switzerland. "NGVA Europe is an important step for Gazprom and it is also important for NGVA Europe to get an even closer connection with other international institutions where Gazprom is also represented in the NGV area: IGU, EBC, UN ECE. I am sure everybody will win from such bi- and multilateral connections", said Gazprom's NGVA Europe BoD member, Eugene Pronin. Gazprom is one of the world’s largest energy companies. Gazprom’s mission is to ensure maximally efficient and balanced gas supply to Russian customers, including Europe, and reliably fulfill long-term gas export contracts. The Russian gas company becomes more and more interconnected with Europe, especially through Russia's South Stream pipeline project that will carry gas under the Black Sea to Europe. NGVA Europe Chairman, Trevor Fletcher, therefore pointed out "It was  great pleasure as the Chairman of NGVA Europe to announce Gazprom as a Board member at the last Board meeting in Geneva".

Gazprom strongly promotes CNG and LNG in road transport also through various Blue Corridor projects. In the framework of the EU-Russia energy dialogue it was agreed to create a working group on alternative uses of natural gas (mainly in the transport sector). The main outcome of this Group will be the organisation of a Conference/Workshop on 23-24 June in Brussels, which will be hosted by the European Commission (DG ENergy) and which is currently under preparation with the support of Gazprom, Eurogas and NGVA Europe.

The next key event in the energy dialogue will be the VIth International Conference "Energy Dialogue: Russia-EU - The Gas Aspect", which is also supported by NGVA Europe and which will take place on 19th May 2011 in Berlin.
