Brussels, 20th November 2009

The European Commission invited to a Stakeholder Meeting on November 20th in Brussels, in order to prepare a new Transport White Paper for the period 2010 – 2020, which shall cover the main challenges and opportunities for the transport sector (go to official press release). The first ‘milestone’ in this exercise is the Communication COM(2009)279/4 “A sustainable future for transport: Towards an integrated, technology-led and user friendly system” (http://ec.europa.eu/transport/strategies/2009_future_of_transport_en.htm), adopted by the Commission on 17 June 2009.

NGVA Europe, among other European stakeholders, contributed to this debate initiated by the European Commission and also attended the stakeholder meeting on Nov 20th. During the stakeholder meeting on “A sustainable future for transport” NGVA Europe was represented by its GM, M. Lage, who insisted on the benefits of natural gas and biomethane in transport and the necessity to give more attention to this fuel alternative on the European level.

In the final meeting on the main findings of the workshop, Mr. Matthias Ruete, Director General of DG Transport and Energy (DG TREN), recognised that the Commission should re-evaluate the contribution of NG/biomethane to a sustainable future for transport.
