Energy efficient and environmentally friendly biogas upgrading technology in standardized units from global developer and NGVA Europe member, Greenlane Biogas, enables Suiker Unie to embark on biogas initiative.
Stockholm, February 14, 2011 - Suiker Unie, a Dutch company that develops, produces and markets sugar and sugar specialties, has launched a project to produce 10 million cubic meters of biogas each year that will be injected into the Dutch public gas grid. Biogas is a renewable and environmentally friendly energy source and an alternative to fossil fuels which, when upgraded and refined, can as an example be used to heat houses, cooking or run vehicles. To upgrade the biogas Suiker Unie has ordered two upgrading units from Greenlane Biogas, a global developer and supplier of proprietary water scrubbing biogas upgrading technology. The units are on split delivery and scheduled for operation and biomethane production in July and November 2011.
The biogas project is part of Suiker Unie’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative and sustainable development program and encompasses a complete new set of plants installed at one of the the company’s production facility . The installation includes both fermentation unit, that generate biogas from digested by-products of the production process, and the upgrading unit from Greenlane Biogas.
“We chose Greenlane Biogas because they are an established manufacturer with successful installations of upgrading plants throughout Europe and the world. In the specific situation for this projects the water scrubbing technology was the best solution", comments Teun van der Weg, project manager at Suiker Unie.
The Greenlane product range spans a wide field from the diverse needs of society from small municipalities and farms especially developed for sewage treatment plants. The largerst units, Matai and Totara, which Suiker Unie have ordered are designed for raw gas capacities of 1250 and 2200 Nm3/h respectively, and are delivered as a prepackaged standard product that enables rapid installation and simplicity of operation. The upgrading process used in the Greenlane plants is the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly available on the market. The main process uses only pure water as the cleaning fluid.
