Ballast Nedam’s subsidiary CNG Net opens 50th public CNG filling station in the Netherlands

Official Press Release text by NGVA Europe member Ballast Nedam

The fiftieth public CNG filling station of the Netherlands has become a reality with the opening of the CNG Net station in Harderwijk. This unique milestone has been achieved in a period when contributing towards a cleaner environment while achieving an appealing financial advantage is more topical than ever. And it does not just involve these filling stations; the CNG Net stations in Leiden and Purmerend are set to follow soon.

Official opening
The official, celebratory opening of the CNG filling station provided by Ballast Nedam IPM on the Hertog Reinoudlaan in Harderwijk took place on Tuesday the 14 September 2010. CNG Net and Tamoil opened the filling station together with representative Annelies van der Kolk and Alderman Pieter Teeninga. From now on the station will be open, for filling up with natural gas, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The filling station was partially financed by an investment subsidy provided by central government.

picture_opening_CNG_Net_HarderwijkCNG Net, a subsidiary of Ballast Nedam, invests in a country-wide network of CNG filling stations. At this moment it exploits sixty percent of the operational public filling stations. The use of natural gas allows driving to become cheaper, without causing damage to the environment. CNG Net is creating the foundation for a cleaner future that is accessible to everyone!

Advantages of driving on natural gas
Driving using natural gas provides many advantages. In the first place, it is much better for the environment. Natural gas emits 20% less Carbon Dioxide (CO2) than petrol and 95% less Nitrogen oxide (NOx) than diesel. Other damaging substances such as soot, particulates and carcinogenic substances are assigned to history if you opt for a natural gas vehicle.

Fill up safely and inexpensively
Driving using natural gas is much less expensive than traditional fuels. You can drive about 350 kilometres for 15 euros. No other fuel can match this. There are also several advantages while actually filling up your vehicle with natural gas. You can fill up your car just as quickly as with petrol or diesel and it is clean and safe. Natural gas is a clean and dry gas.

Transition to biomethane
In the coming years, CNG Net will make the transition to biomethane. Biomethane can be provided at the current CNG filling stations without any modifications having to be made. Biomethane is created as a result of composting green and garden waste, sewage sludge and manure and is regarded as the most sustainable fuel for the coming years.
